Personal space
Written on 16 July 2021

Personal space to me is psychological space. Personal space can exist in different forms such as physical space, emotional space, social space, and mental space. This personal space makes us feel safe and let us trust others to enter into our personal space.
During the art therapy class yesterday, we were given a limited amount of time to draw our understanding of personal space. I was rushing to my seat and trying to give myself some time to breathe and think through what to draw.
Something asks me to draw waves. so I drew waves using different colored markers. And I was thinking about what I can say about it. Everyone seems to know what to draw but I do not know how to explain my drawing.
Slowly, I figured out how to explain the waves that relate to my personal space.
This is what I shared with the class:
The personal space that makes me feel safe and secure is in my mental state. I believe they are waves in my mental state of mind. The waves represent my creative pursuits within limitations that help me to express myself through photography, writing, and reading to gain insights.
Looking back, the waves are like wavelengths on a graph. It flows continuously in an infinite manner. I feel safe that I can do what I love in a limited space without many resources. I become more creative when I can only work within limits. My mental state is mine an absolute safe haven that only people whom I trust can enter my mental space.
My mental state evokes so many memories of my past as well and also building up for the present leading to the future. I am more careful to let anyone know of my thoughts and my feelings. This leads to emotional boundaries. To only let the right people know of my feelings.
The waves in my mind are soothing to the inner self and it creates a continuous path towards fulfillment for myself. It reminds me to go on a journey to live life with meaning and purpose.
And to find myself always till the end of my life.
It is refreshing to be able to attend the art therapy class. I really love it other than zoning out most of the time. It will be nice to be a certified art therapist and use it to help others.
