Love yourself.

Be Clear on how

You want to be treated.

Know your worth.

Always.

- Maryam hasnaa

The one thing I have neglected the most in my 7 years of having the mental illness filled with anxiety, depression and early stage of bipolar is self-love.

For my very own definition of self-love, it means to love yourself more than anyone around you. It will require a great deal of effort and our self-confidence will rise slowly throughout the process of self-love.

Your biggest commitment must

always be to yourself- Bridgett Devoue

It starts with the acknowledgement that I deserve to take care of myself and embrace our real feelings of sadness, fear, happiness, excitement and many more.  If we don’t listen to ourselves, who will?

We are our very own rescue. Not our parents. Not our siblings and our friends. No one can give you the light to the path of the fleeting darkness. Darkness is only temporary. The light is within us and it shines bright as we love ourselves. Our light will light up others’ darkest path. Trust me on this.

We are our very own rescue as we are given a beautiful soul and a physical body to live in this temporary world that we are living in.

We are our very own rescue as we have the responsibility to take care of our basic needs such as hygiene, attire, eating habits and fitness level. We have a responsibility to embrace our gifts of talents not just for ourselves and for others as well. Then, we are able to truly embrace ourselves, be honest with our feelings and have the capacity to connect with others.

We are able to experience personal growth and recover from our mental illness. With the help of medication, counseling and going to the rehabilitation centre to aid with our recovery, we will speed up the recovery process through self-love.

I was in denial for the past 7 years. Unknowingly, if I were to continue to be in denial, my mental health may decline further and I may not in the right state of mind to make basic decisions.

Honestly, I still do have suicidal thoughts too.

You are not alone. You are never alone. Never.

Lend me your hand and let’s hold our hands together to break self-stigma with self-love.

Yours truly,

Nur Afiqah
